  • VX Racing, What next?

Not being an avid BTCC follower and with Vauxhall pulling out, what is the future for VX racing? Will it tick away in the background, doing privateer and clubman level stuff....or is it closing the doors?

VXRacing is Vauxhalls BTCC team, run by Triple Eight Racing.

Now Vauxhall has pulled out (taking VXRacing with it) means that Triple Eight Racing has a new venture next year.

They'll be running the 16 Caparo T1000 in the newly created Pro1000 Race series.

    More info.

So once again, Vauxhalls attempt at establishing a sporting heritage and brand akin to the "RS" of Ford has been cut short.
Ok, the current financial climate and automobile manufacturing culture has changed (more within GM than other major players), but Ford can still wheel out the two lilttle letters that spell instant sales. Has the VXR brand been out long enough to consider itself a rival to Ford? The Insignia VXR really has no equal in the blue collar stakes.....no other mainstream maker has a similar specc'd vehicle.....although it is now in a premium price range too.
The Focus RS is a level above the Astra VXr which in my opinion has a direct correlation to the Focus ST. Incidentally the "ST" nomenclature has been around for 12years and is now as established as the GSi/Gte (88/89) and SR(81) badging.

Ford rallied for years from mk1/2 and 3 (briefly rs1700T anyone?) all the way through to the escort cossie.....so that would be '69 to '94/5, all with RS branding. Pity Vauxhall/GM didn't have the foresight to stick with the SR and GTe/ GSi...It'd be interesting to see if the club scene would have followed the likes of the RSOC.

These are my thoughts, will VXR stay or change once again?

There going to do bugger all mate may come back in a few year who knows its a waste of time and money them bothering with the btcc theres no other propper manufacturers.

In my opinion they should start up a btcc classics season and get all the old motors back together would be fantastic to see!

VXR doesnt carry as much weight as even fords ST brand in my opinion which is sad but true, its probably going to come to an end anyway. vauxhall have had some great Badges over the decades but they never bloomin stick with anything which i think is why it hasnt reached the status of The RS branding.

Look back at things and sporting models have seen things like, HS, HSR, GTE, CALIBRE, GSI, LE, ST, SRI, SR, SXI, Sport and now VXR has arguably killed GSI and turned SRI which is possibly the longest running badge into quite lame models in some cases.

At least 888 isnt going to go belly up since vauxhall no longer require their services.

Over the years vauxhalls motorsport teams and setups have often been the underdogs with lower budgets and non conventional drivers but came out on top giving big racing concerns a good kicking, people warm to an underdog. Now what is there to aspire to? I havent followed the BTCC since the astra coupe days came to an end, its just not what it used to be

Rear wheel drive MK3 escort prototype with a near 1800cc turbo engine, 350bhp in works form or 200bhp (road) format. Think they only made about 15 of them and most ended up getting taken apart when they cancelled the programme and started work on the RS200 for group B.

My facts may not be accurate but thats a rough outline, would of been a great car

You have to admire some of fords motorsport machines over the years, and having severall cousins and friends who are 100% FORDists you get to know these things

I don't understand why 888 cant stick with Vauxhall as a privateer team. If WSR can run BMW's with the results they had this season as a customer team, then surely 888 could do the same!

Also it made no sense to me for GM to be running two teams in the BTCC with Chevrolet and Vauxhall this season. I presume Chevrolet has also been dropped for next season then!

The Chevvy's are privateers mate and 888 are/were paid by Vauxhall.

I think ive missed 4 & a third rounds this year,( as you can see from Nick Reeds post. Next year I think some of us hard core BTCC fans will still be going to some of the rounds josh might be going to donnington next year
